Turn your PowerPoint induction into a phone induction with a quiz

Short answer: If you already induct people from a PowerPoint, put that same deck on a worker's phone. They see it one slide at a time. The quiz stays locked until every slide has been viewed. Each slide view is timestamped, and the pass stays on their record. You invite the workers. A gate QR code and PIN are optional.

This is for principal contractors and trade contractors in Australia, including Queensland, who already have a site induction deck and need phone delivery plus a record they can look up later.

General information only, written on 15 October 2026. It isn't legal advice, and it doesn't say what your induction must contain. For what WorkSafe Queensland publishes about a commercial job, see the QLD site-specific induction guide. Always check the current law and the regulator for your state and your job.

Why a paper sign-on sheet falls short

A paper sign-on sheet closes the induction with a signature. That signature is a name and, if you're lucky, a date. It is a thin record of what the person was shown.

  • It shows a name, not the deck. The sheet does not say which slides were on the screen, or which version of the pack you used.
  • Late arrivals miss the room. If the talk in the crib room already happened, the usual fix is a rushed replay, or a signature on the sheet anyway.
  • A shared tablet is easy to flick through. Someone can move to the last slide and sign. You still have a name, not a slide-by-slide record.
  • Looking it up later is slow. When a supervisor or a client asks who was shown the site rules, a folder of paper sheets is hard to search. It still does not say whether that person opened every slide.

A signature still has a use. On its own, it is a weak way to show that a particular deck was delivered.

Slide by slide on their phone

Keep the PowerPoint you already use. Upload the .pptx. Workers open it on their own phone and move through it one slide at a time, with Back and Next. The layout matches your deck.

There is no button that jumps to the quiz. It stays locked until every slide on that attempt has been viewed. Set2Go timestamps when each slide was first viewed.

That timestamp shows the slide was opened. It does not show how long someone looked at it, and it does not show that they understood it. You still choose the words on the slides.

The quiz comes after the slides

Add questions from your own deck: site rules, emergency points, PPE, exclusions, or whatever you already tell people. The quiz unlocks only after every slide has been viewed. They answer on the phone, on the same attempt.

  • A pass stores the score and the date. If you set how long a pass lasts, the record shows when it expires.
  • A certificate is issued when they pass.

You write the questions. Set2Go does not draft them for you, and a pass mark is not a legal finding.

What you can look up later

  • Who was invited, and who has not started.
  • Slide-by-slide timestamps on the attempt.
  • Passed, needs a retake, or expired, with the quiz score.

Invite only. Workers join because you invite them. They don't self-register on the public site.

Gate check-in is optional

Phone delivery does not require a site gate. If you only need each new starter to finish the company pack, run inductions without check-in.

If you do run a gate, invited workers with a current induction can scan the site QR code, enter their PIN, and acknowledge the site rules. If there's no signal, check-ins queue and sync later. A live board shows open check-ins, so you can see who is on site.

The gate checks the induction record you already have. It does not replace supervising the site.

A practical sequence

  • Upload the .pptx you already use for the induction.
  • Add a short quiz from that deck. You write the questions.
  • Invite the workers. They don't self-register.
  • They view every slide, then take the quiz.
  • Look up the attempt: slide timestamps, score, pass or retake, and expiry if you set one.
  • Add the site QR and PIN only if you want a gate. Leave it off if you don't.

Free plan and the 14-day trial

The free plan covers 1 active site and up to 10 workers. There is a 14-day trial with no card required. Current plans, including what the trial includes, are at settogo.com.au/pricing.

If you want the induction and the record without a site gate, start from settogo.com.au/contractor-inductions.

How Set2Go fits

Set2Go delivers the induction PowerPoint you already have, keeps the slide timestamps and the quiz result, and can run QR and PIN check-in at the gate when you want it. It does not write your site rules, your SWMS, or your WHS management plan.

Important: Set2Go is safety administration software. It is not a statutory WHS system. Using it does not, by itself, mean you have met your work health and safety duties. You are still responsible for the content of your induction and site rules, and for meeting your duties as a PCBU or principal contractor.

FAQ

Can I use the PowerPoint I already run on site?

Yes. Upload the .pptx you already use. Workers see those slides on their phone, one at a time. Set2Go does not write the deck for you.

Can someone skip straight to the quiz?

No. The quiz stays locked until every slide on that attempt has been viewed. They move one slide at a time.

What is recorded?

Set2Go timestamps when each slide was first viewed on the attempt, then stores the quiz result: pass or not, the score, and the expiry date if you set how long a pass lasts. A certificate is issued when they pass. The timestamp shows the slide was opened. It does not show how long someone looked at it.

Can workers sign themselves up?

No. You invite them into your company. They don't self-register on the public site.

Do I have to use a QR code at the gate?

No. Phone delivery of the induction does not need a site gate. If you add a site, invited workers with a current induction can scan the site QR code, enter their PIN, and acknowledge the site rules.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan is 1 active site and up to 10 workers. There is also a 14-day trial, with no card required. Current plans are on the pricing page.

Does a pass mean I have met my WHS duties?

No. Set2Go keeps an administration record of the induction you supplied. It is not a statutory WHS system. A pass does not, by itself, mean you have met your duties. You are still responsible for the content.

Is this only for Queensland?

No. The steps are the same for a principal contractor or trade contractor elsewhere in Australia. Queensland commercial jobs have separate published guidance on what a site-specific induction covers. That sits in the QLD site-specific induction guide, which is general information, not legal advice.
